Rory McIlroy admitted he felt “a little rusty” after he began his warm-up for next week’s US PGA Championship by finishing five shots behind round one leader Keith Mitchell at the Truist Championship in Philadelphia.<\/b><\/p>\n
McIlroy – last year’s winner and a four-time champion at the event – recorded six birdies and two bogeys to card a four-under-par 66 at the Wissahickon Golf Course.<\/p>\n
The 36-year-old, who completed a career Grand Slam<\/a> with his thrilling win over Justin Rose at last month’s Masters, ended the day tied in 25th alongside nine other players.<\/p>\n “I\u00a0was\u00a0a\u00a0little\u00a0rusty\u00a0out\u00a0there,\u00a0just\u00a0hadn’t\u00a0played\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0week\u00a0and\u00a0I\u00a0hadn’t\u00a0really\u00a0done\u00a0a\u00a0ton\u00a0of\u00a0practice,”\u00a0said\u00a0McIlroy.<\/p>\n “I\u00a0drove\u00a0the\u00a0ball\u00a0pretty\u00a0well.\u00a0I\u00a0certainly\u00a0can\u00a0tidy\u00a0a\u00a0few\u00a0things\u00a0up,\u00a0but\u00a0overall\u00a0a\u00a0decent\u00a0day.”<\/p>\n All four of McIlroy’s victories in this event, formerly known as Wells Fargo, were won at Quail Hollow, which hosts next week’s US PGA.<\/p>\n
