{"id":33056,"date":"2025-08-04T16:52:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T16:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/crystal-palace-draw-fredrikstad-or-midtjylland-in-europa-conference-league-amid-appeal\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T16:52:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T16:52:20","slug":"crystal-palace-draw-fredrikstad-or-midtjylland-in-europa-conference-league-amid-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/crystal-palace-draw-fredrikstad-or-midtjylland-in-europa-conference-league-amid-appeal\/","title":{"rendered":"Crystal Palace draw Fredrikstad or Midtjylland in Europa Conference League amid appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Crystal Palace have been drawn against Norwegian side Fredrikstad or Midtjylland of Denmark, for the Europa Conference League play-off round despite an ongoing appeal over their demotion from the Europa League.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Palace were demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League by Uefa because of a breach of multi-club ownership rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Until recently, American businessman John Textor had a stake in the Eagles &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/c6282gl2z52o\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">which was sold in July<\/a> &#8211; while being the majority owner of French club Lyon, who have also qualified for the Europa League. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The rules of European football&#8217;s governing body state that clubs owned, to a certain threshold of influence, by the same person or entity cannot compete in the same European competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Uefa&#8217;s rules set a deadline of 1 March 2025 to show proof of multi-club ownership restructuring &#8211; a deadline which Palace missed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/ce8350jl5kgo\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Palace have submitted an appeal<\/a> against their demotion with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) and a hearing for the case is scheduled for 8 August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is expected that a decision on the case will be given on 11 August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The appeal is against Uefa, which issued the punishment, French club Lyon and Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, are expected to replace FA Cup winners Palace in the Europa League should the punishment stand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In the meantime, Palace have been included in the Conference League play-off draw.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They will play the loser of a Europa League third-round qualifying tie between Fredrikstad or Midtjylland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Eagles are scheduled to play the first leg of their tie at Selhurst Park on 21 August and the second a week later on 28 August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The winners of the play-off round will progress to the 36-team league phase of the competition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/czjmevgzvy1o?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crystal Palace have been drawn against Norwegian side Fredrikstad or Midtjylland of Denmark, for the Europa Conference League play-off round despite an ongoing appeal over their demotion from the Europa League.
