Six-time major winner Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from next week’s PGA Championship because of “a personal health matter with his family”, organisers have said.<\/b><\/p>\n
The 55-year-old American also missed last month’s Masters,<\/a> saying at the time he would be out for an “extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter”.<\/p>\n Mickelson, winner of the PGA Championship in 2005 and 2021, had been listed among the 154-strong field released on Tuesday for the tournament at Aronimink Golf Club in Newton Square, Pennsylvania from 14-17 May.<\/p>\n But his withdrawal was announced later in the day, with fellow American Max Homa replacing him.<\/p>\n Mickelson also sat out the first four events of the 2026 LIV Golf season, at Riyadh, Adelaide, Hong Kong and Singapore. He also cited a “family health matter” when announcing his initial absence on 1 February.<\/p>\n Although he returned to action in March at Steyn City in South Africa, where he finished tied for 48th place, he later announced his break from golf in early April.<\/p>\n
