Britain’s Cameron Norrie saved a match point as he produced a superb fightback to beat world number seven Alex de Minaur at the Canadian Open.<\/b><\/p>\n
Norrie was a set and 5-2 down against the Australian third seed before coming through 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 to reach the fourth round.<\/p>\n
De Minaur, leading by a double-break, had a match point on his own serve in the second set but double-faulted.<\/p>\n
He twice served for the match but, at 5-4 up, double-faulted again to put the set back on level terms.<\/p>\n
World number 37 Norrie edged the tie-break and then ran away with the deciding set to complete victory in two hours and 52 minutes.<\/p>\n
“It was a great match to win and to test my level, and I can take so much confidence from this one,” the 30-year-old said.<\/p>\n
“The level was so high the first two sets. <\/p>\n
“From the beginning, [de Minaur] came out firing and I had to match it.”<\/p>\n
Norrie – who reached the Los Cabos semi-finals last week – will face France’s Arthur Fils for a place in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n
De Minaur’s exit means that fifth seed Ben Shelton is the only top-10 men’s player remaining in Montreal.<\/p>\n
World number one Jannik Sinner and third-ranked Novak Djokovic withdrew before the tournament began, while top seed Alexander Zverev lost his first match.<\/p>\n
Sixth-ranked Daniil Medvedev, seventh seed Taylor Fritz and world number nine Flavio Cobolli also all lost in the second round.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
