{"id":45977,"date":"2026-08-17T04:20:03","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T04:20:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/cardiff-city-v-wrexham-changing-times-as-welsh-blockbuster-awaits\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T04:20:04","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T04:20:04","slug":"cardiff-city-v-wrexham-changing-times-as-welsh-blockbuster-awaits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/cardiff-city-v-wrexham-changing-times-as-welsh-blockbuster-awaits\/","title":{"rendered":"Cardiff City v Wrexham: Changing times as Welsh blockbuster awaits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The worldwide buzz is far from the norm, and certainly a far cry from the most recent league meeting between the duo on 22 March, 2002 &#8211; when goals from Scott Young, Peter Thorne and Danny Gabbidon earned the Bluebirds a 3-2 victory over the Red Dragons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Just shy of 16,000 supporters were at Ninian Park on that occasion, and nearly double that amount will be in attendance at Cardiff City Stadium this time around, such is the anticipation for the fixture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The game will also be beamed to fans around the world, particularly in North America where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/wrexham\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Wrexham<\/a> have become a household name, thanks largely to the success of their Welcome to Wrexham documentary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/cardiff-city\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Cardiff<\/a> head coach Barry-Murphy has zero interest in the fanfare brought to the party by the likes of Wrexham&#8217;s Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Barry-Murphy&#8217;s focus lies solely on satisfying the demands of those wearing blue in the Welsh capital, along with those of the club&#8217;s Malaysian owner Vincent Tan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The people in North America aren&#8217;t relevant to me,&#8221; said the Irishman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;With all due respect, the people of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/cardiff-city\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Cardiff<\/a> are the only ones that matter to us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;And obviously the people in Malaysia are your boss, so we&#8217;re trying to impress him always and play for the supporters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wrexham&#8217;s growth, however, has been nigh-on impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Denis Smith &#8211; Wrexham boss for that 3-2 loss in the Welsh capital more than two decades ago &#8211; says having a team of the Red Dragons&#8217; stature in the north of the country is vital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I understand the feeling for football in and around that area,&#8221; the 78-year-old said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/m00308tl\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">BBC Radio Wales Sport<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I had a great time there. I was there for five years.
