{"id":46292,"date":"2026-08-24T04:36:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T04:36:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/vuelta-a-espana-results-matt-brennan-wins-stage-two-of-grand-tour-debut\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T04:36:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T04:36:34","slug":"vuelta-a-espana-results-matt-brennan-wins-stage-two-of-grand-tour-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/vuelta-a-espana-results-matt-brennan-wins-stage-two-of-grand-tour-debut\/","title":{"rendered":"Vuelta a Espana results: Matt Brennan wins stage two of Grand Tour debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Great Britain&#8217;s Matt Brennan sprinted to victory in the second stage of the Vuelta a Espana on Sunday as overall race favourite Tadej Pogacar held on to the leader&#8217;s red jersey.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 21-year-old Brennan, riding his first Grand Tour, pounced in the final kilometres of the 214km ride from Monaco to Manosque to claim his first stage win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It looked like Brennan&#8217;s team-mate Wout van Aert and Tour de France winner Pogacar would fight for victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, in the final kilometres Van Aert was caught and Pogacar opted to conserve energy, giving Brennan his chance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We started off with the ambition of Wout trying to get in the red jersey today,&#8221; said Englishman Brennan, who joined Team Visma-Lease a Bike&#8217;s world tour squad in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We had that plan and then I was always going to be in the background for the sprint in case that plan [didn&#8217;t work] &#8230; and that&#8217;s exactly what happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Hopefully it&#8217;s not the last one, but it&#8217;s nice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Spaniard Pau Miquel Delgado of Bahrain Victorious came second, as UAE Team Emirates&#8217;
