Fellow Briton Georgia Hunter Bell came fourth in the 1500m despite being among the pre-race favourites.<\/p>\n
Hunter Bell has won three international titles this year, including the world indoor 1500m, Commonwealth Games 800m and European 1500m, but never looked like threatening the top three in Brussels.<\/p>\n
Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska came first with a time of three minutes 54.05 seconds, with Kenya’s Dorcus Ewoi second and Australia’s Jessica Hull third.<\/p>\n
Hunter Bell said her performance was a result of a “long hard season”, with the 32-year-old having competed in 19 races this year.<\/p>\n
“I have done three championships so I am starting to feel it in my body,” said Hunter Bell.<\/p>\n
“I am struggling a little bit, even mentally to get my adrenaline up again week in, week out, but I am really lucky to be racing and to be happy and healthy.<\/p>\n
“I just have to regroup before the Ultimate Championships next week, but I have to be happy with my consistency this season.”<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, Switzerland’s Audrey Werro won the women’s 800m final but was pushed all the way by Dutch athlete Femke Broeders-Bol.<\/p>\n
With British Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson missing through injury, Werro hung on during the final straight with Broeders-Bol at her heels.<\/p>\n
Werro, who has set the third, fourth and fifth fastest 800m times in history this year, finished in 1:54.75, which was 0.06secs in front of Broeders-Bol.<\/p>\n
Brazil’s Alison dos Santos and America’s Masai Russell, who set world records in the men’s 400m hurdles and women’s 100m hurdles last week respectively, repeated their victories in Brussels but could not better the times they set in Zurich.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
