South Africa live for must-win games. That is when, according to Brits, the Boks “come alive”.<\/p>\n

Defeat at Ellis Park cost them their world number one status – which was quickly regained – but also exposed a vulnerability.<\/p>\n

South Africa, who lost matches in the pool stages of the past two World Cups, are currently the favourites to win next year’s tournament in Australia, bringing a pressure they have not experienced previously.<\/p>\n

“We hate being the favourite, we almost have to have our backs against the wall,” Brits said.<\/p>\n

“We prefer not to have the eyes on us and move under the radar. I think that is the best way for any team.”<\/p>\n

Back-to-back Six Nations champions France sent a weakened side to Christchurch in July and lost 34-32<\/a> to New Zealand.<\/p>\n

When matched against the Springboks last November, France were beaten emphatically,<\/a> 32-17.<\/p>\n

Brits believes France are “the most settled” and offer tactical flexibility similar to that of the world champions.<\/p>\n

“I feel like South Africa have an advantage as they can play multiple styles, and it feels like most other nations don’t have that capability,” Brits said.<\/p>\n

“The only team that can play multiple styles is France, as they can grind it out with the forwards, play the kicking game and the expansive game as well.”<\/p>\n

He added that England still need to become what they are “supposed to be” and to keep an eye on Ireland, who are travelling “under the radar” after peaking in previous World Cup cycles prior to the tournament.<\/p>\n

“Ireland still have amazing rugby players and coaches \u2013 the best coaches out there – and a top-four squad,” Brits added. “Be careful of Ireland.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
