{"id":47369,"date":"2026-09-20T05:15:31","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T05:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/afcon-2027-kenya-tanzania-and-uganda-need-more-urgency-to-be-ready-says-patrice-motsepe\/"},"modified":"2026-09-20T05:15:35","modified_gmt":"2026-09-20T05:15:35","slug":"afcon-2027-kenya-tanzania-and-uganda-need-more-urgency-to-be-ready-says-patrice-motsepe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/afcon-2027-kenya-tanzania-and-uganda-need-more-urgency-to-be-ready-says-patrice-motsepe\/","title":{"rendered":"Afcon 2027: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda need more &#8216;urgency&#8217; to be ready, says Patrice Motsepe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Motsepe began his inspection visit for Afcon 2027 in Tanzania before touring Kenya, where he inspected two venues in Nairobi: Kasarani Stadium and the newly constructed 60,000-capacity Talanta Stadium. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">BBC Sport Africa understands that one of the main areas of concern in Kenya is the Kasarani and its corresponding training facility. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The stadium is set to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cmy8zy00x2qxo\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">which Nairobi was awarded on Tuesday<\/a> ahead of London and Rome.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">When Caf conducted its previous inspection in mid-February, the local organisers were told that stadiums and their associated training facilities should be around 80% ready by August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, Kasarani has seen limited progress over the past seven months, with several areas still requiring attention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">One of the biggest challenges is the playing surface, which is yet to be laid. Work is also required on cabling for broadcast and television operations, floodlights and the stadiums&#8217; sky boxes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Motsepe also pointed to the demands created by hosting hundreds of VIPs and heads of state, saying some stadium designs will need to be reconfigured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Security issues in relation to where the special guests, particularly the heads of state, will be seated requires a revision of the original plans,&#8221; the 64-year-old explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Kenya&#8217;s cabinet secretary for sports Salim Mvurya insisted preparations would be completed on time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I assure Caf and Kenyans we will accelerate the preparations for Afcon 2027,&#8221; Mvurya said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We will conclude everything by December to be sure we can have test matches in the various facilities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/articles\/cxr50lgjgz98o?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Motsepe began his inspection visit for Afcon 2027 in Tanzania before touring Kenya, where he inspected two venues in Nairobi: Kasarani Stadium and the newly constructed 60,000-capacity Talanta Stadium.
