It&#8217;s what we came for,&#8221; said Pedersen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-7\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-7.0\">&#8220;It was a tough day for the team and it&#8217;s nice to pay them back with this victory &#8211;  a good day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-8\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-8.0\">&#8220;It was pretty close in the end, it was not easy to catch them for a long time. We really had to use everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-9\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-9.0\">&#8220;I feel sorry for those guys because they did really well but I&#8217;m happy I could take the win.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-10\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-10.0\">Great Britain&#8217;s Geraint Thomas had an issue with his bike with just under 12km to go but recovered to finish with the peloton and is sixth overall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-11\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-11.0\">Compatriot Mark Cavendish&#8217;s Astana team said, shortly after the finish, he had &#8220;crashed earlier in the stage in the end of the descent from Colle San Pietro&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.0\">The team later <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AstanaQazTeam\/status\/1656754000719380480\" class=\"story-body__external-link\" title=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.$link-2\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.$link-2.0\">issued an update<\/span><span class=\"gs-u-ml- gel-icon\" style=\"height:15px;width:15px;\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.$link-2.1\"><svg viewbox=\"0 0 32 32\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.$link-2.1.0\"><title data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.$link-2.1.0.0\">external-link<\/title><path d=\"M12 0v5h11.5l-5 5H0v22h22V17.5l-2 2V30H2V12h14.5l-7.8 7.7 3.6 3.6L27 8.5V20h5V0H12z\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.$link-2.1.0.1\"\/><\/svg><\/span><\/a><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-12.3\"> saying that, even though Cavendish had picked up some new &#8220;abrasions&#8221;, he &#8220;feels good&#8221; and had &#8220;avoided any serious injury&#8221;. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-13\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-13.0\">Slovenia&#8217;s Primoz Roglic, who also had an issue with his bike, is fifth. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14.0\">Belgian&#8217;s Remco Evenepoel, who crashed twice <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/cycling\/65548695\" class=\"story-body__internal-link\" title=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14.$link-2\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14.$link-2.0\">on stage five,<\/span><\/a><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14.3\"> finished in the peloton and remains second in the general classification, 28 seconds behind Leknessund. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.0\">&#8220;It&#8217;s not nice, especially early in the Giro like this,&#8221; said Evenepoel prior to the start of the sixth stage on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-16\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-16.0\">&#8220;[I have] some pain in the back, some big bruises. I&#8217;ve got a big black spot on my back which is some blood. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17\"><span data-reactid=\".2dxlng9szo.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17.0\">&#8220;It&#8217;s life, it&#8217;s racing.
