Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico is in a “serious” condition in intensive care after a horse riding accident, his club says.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rico, 29, was riding in the El Rocio region of Huelva in Spain when he was in a collision with a runaway horse, local media reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Spaniard was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Seville.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rico was on the bench as PSG won a record 11th league title with <\/span>a 1-1 draw at Strasbourg<\/span><\/a> on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

He had returned to his native Spain after the squad were given time off following their win.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Sergio is in good hands and is battling to pull through,” the player’s family said in a statement on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n

“He is receiving the best care, we must tread with caution, especially for the next 48 hours.”<\/span><\/p>\n

A PSG spokesperson said Rico is “i a serious condition”.<\/span><\/p>\n

The club later added it was “in constant contact with his loved ones”.<\/span><\/p>\n

The former Sevilla keeper joined the French champions in 2020 and spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Premier League side Fulham.<\/span><\/p>\n

He has made 29 appearances for PSG since moving from Sevilla in September 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Lots of strength and a speedy recovery,” his former club tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
