Scorecard. Group table

Sophie Ecclestone defeated England team-mate Nat Sciver-Brunt as UP Warriorz hammered Mumbai Indians at the Women’s Premier League in Bengaluru.

Warriorz earned their first win of the season by chasing previously unbeaten Mumbai’s 161-6 with 21 balls to spare.

Kiran Navgire made 57 from 31 balls to give Warriorz a flying start, before England’s Issy Wong took two wickets in an over to revive Mumbai.

But Grace Harris, with 38 not out, and Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 27 sealed it.

It gives Warriorz victory from their third match of the campaign and puts them two points behind Mumbai, the defending champions staying second in the table after missing the chance to go top.

Sciver-Brunt was captaining Mumbai because regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was ruled out with an injury.

West Indian Matthews overturned being given caught behind on six, then could have been caught on four other occasions before reaching 50 from 44 balls.

Matthews added 50 with Yastika Bhatia and 42 with Sciver-Brunt, who was run out for 19. Left-arm spinner Ecclestone claimed the wicket of Pooja Vastrakar, while Wong hit her first ball for six in an unbeaten 15.

Navgire ignited the chase, smashing four sixes as she added 94 in only nine overs with captain Alyssa Healy.

But after Navgire was stumped off the leg-spin of Amelia Kerr, Wong breathed life into the contest.

Playing for the first time this season because of an injury to Shabnim Ismail, pace bowler Wong had Tahlia McGrath lbw on review then got Healy to chop to short third.

Experienced international pair Harris and Deepti took the sting from the situation, sharing an unbroken partnership of 65 to complete victory by seven wickets.

It means Warriorz and England coach Jon Lewis defeated former England skipper Charlotte Edwards, who is in charge of Mumbai.
