Wrth ymateb i’r cyhoeddiad nos Iau, dywedodd Prif Weinidog Cymru Vaughan Gething fod y newyddion yn “syfrdanol”, gan alw ar y cwmni i aros i weld canlyniad yr etholiad cyffredinol.

“Mae’r cynlluniau posib i gau ffwrneisi chwyth pedwar a phump ym Mhort Talbot yr wythnos nesaf yn syfrdanol, a bydd hynny yn achosi poen meddwl enfawr i’r gweithlu, eu teuluoedd a’r gymuned yn ehangach,” meddai.

“Dyw Llywodraeth Cymru ddim yn gallu cefnogi’r cynlluniau i gau’r ffwrneisi.

“Ry’n ni wedi dweud sawl tro, dylai’r cwmni aros i weld canlyniad yr etholiad cyffredinol cyn gwneud unrhyw benderfyniadau na ellir eu gwyrdroi.”

Mae’r cyhoeddiad, medd llefarydd yr economi ac ynni’r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig, Samuel Kurtz, yn “siomedig” ac yn rhoi “mwy o straen i gymunedau sydd eisoes â digon i’w poeni”.

Fe gyhuddodd Tata o “ddiffyg ewyllys da i’w gweithwyr ar adeg ofidus”.

Dywedodd hefyd bod llywodraeth Lafur Cymru wedi “esgus cefnogi gweithlu Tata, gan fethu â chyfrannu ceiniog i’r bwrdd trawsnewid, a dydy maniffesto Llafur y DU yn dweud dim o ran beth fyddai’n gwneud yn wahanol i gefnogi gweithwyr dur Tata”.

Mae llefarydd Plaid Cymru ar yr economi, Luke Fletcher yn dweud y dylai llywodraeth nesa’r DU fod yn gyfrifol am y diwydiant dur fydd, ym marn y blaid, yn cael ei harwain gan Syr Keir Starmer.

Dywedodd: “Mae’r newyddion yn ofnadwy i Gymru, ein heconomi a’n cymunedau.

“Digon yw digon – mae’n amser i fod yn feiddgar a mentrus oherwydd os nad ydyn ni, fydd cenedlaethau dyfodol ddim yn diolch i ni am adael i’r diwydiant wywo.”
