Natasha Flint’s second goal proved to be the winner

Natasha Flint’s double took Celtic to within a point of SWPL leaders Rangers as Glasgow City also benefitted from the Old Firm derby.

Glasgow City beat Hearts 2-0 to join Celtic on 59 points after the latter’s 2-1 victory in Airdrie. Rangers remain on 60 points and all three of the Glasgow sides have nine games to play.

Elsewhere in the top six, Hibernian beat Partick Thistle 1-0.

In the bottom six, there were wins for Aberdeen, Montrose and Motherwell.

The Dons beat Spartans 2-0, Montrose struck late to defeat Dundee United 1-0 and Motherwell thrashed Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton Academical 4-0.

The SWPL sides were playing their first fixtures since the league’s split.

Flint scored at the second attempt after being put through on goal and later capitalised on Tessel Middag’s mis-hit clearance to lash in the second shortly before the break. Jane Ross turned in Rangers’ second-half reply.

“It’s massive,” Flint told BBC Alba. “We deserved the three points. We got bodies in the box at all times to get on the end of the crosses. It was a massive game plan for us.”

Fiona Brown’s impressive strike put City in front and Emily Whelan doubled their advantage from close range. There was no further scoring in the second period.

Lauren Doran-Barr’s composed finish put Hibs ahead and Poppy Lawson made it two in the second period. Thistle coach Brian Graham was sent off for receiving a second booking just before Hibs’ second. Partick’s next game is the SWPL Cup final against Rangers.

Bayley Hutchison robbed the Spartans defence and fired Aberdeen’s first-half opener and Hannah Stewart doubled their advantage with a late penalty following a foul on Hutchison.

Montrose scored the only goal against Dundee in the 94th minute with Louise Brown’s deft touch securing all three points.

Louisa Boyes put Motherwell one up and Amy Anderson, Morgan Cross and Bailley Collins added further goals before half-time.

Hamilton and Dundee United remain three points below Spartans.
