Scotland’s Hamish Stewart missed out on a place in the Wimbledon men’s singles after losing out to Leandro Riedi in the qualifying event at Roehampton.
The 25-year-old from Strathblane, ranked 550 in the world, had come through four matches to reach the last 32 but was beaten 6-3 4-6 6-3 6-4 by the Swiss.
The 16 players left standing, including England’s Oliver Tarvet, progress to the main draw at SW19.
Stewart, who played Junior Wimbledon in his teens, had come through a nail-biting deciding tiebreak with Luca Van Assche on Wednesday.
He also beat former British Davis Cup player Liam Brody along the way.
Against Riedi, who has had two knee surgeries over the past 12 months, there was a rain delay at 4-4 in the fourth set.
“I was so nervous, I was shaking,” the Swiss 23-year-old told BBC Sport. “I spoke to my coach and he just told me just to keep going.
“I started so well after the rain and I’m so happy. It’s one of the best moments of my life.”
Wimbledon begins on 30 June, with Scotland’s Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie competing in the men’s singles.
