The headline in the Metro reads: "The lions weep tonight".

England’s loss to Spain in the final of the Euros, which saw them equalise after going 1-0 down before conceding again in the 86th minute, dominates the front pages. The headline in the Metro reads: “The lions weep tonight.”

The headline in the Express reads: "Dream is over... but three lions you did us proud".

The Daily Express carries a picture of a desolate Jude Bellingham amid celebrating Spanish players. The paper says the “dream is over” but that the “three lions did us proud”.

The headline in the Star reads: "Lions did us proud".

The sentiment is echoed by the Daily Express. “Lions did us proud,” reads the headline.

The headline in the Times reads: "Trump makes plea for unity".

England have been the “great comeback team” of Euro 2024, but Spain’s late second goal gave them too little time to mount another one, says the Times. It adds that Spain have been the best team of the tournament and “have been appropriately rewarded”.

The headline in the i reads: "Heartbreak, again".

The i says England have suffered “heartbreak, again” but that the squad and manager Gareth Southgate “return from Germany as heroes after defying critics”.

The headline in the Mirror reads: "Shattered".

The wait for a major tournament win “goes on” for the Three Lions, says the Daily Mirror.

The headline in the Guardian reads: "US reels after assassination attempt on Trump at rally".

A number of papers lead on the aftermath of the attempted assassination of former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. The Guardian says the incident has left the US “reeling” and that President Joe Biden has ordered “an urgent review into security breaches”. It adds that the shooting, which left one bystander dead and two injured, has “triggered fears of more political violence amid an increasingly fraught election campaign”.

The headline in the Financial Times reads: "Trump calls for unity in face of 'evil' after surviving assassination attempt".

An image of Trump surrounded by members of his security detail with blood on his face and a fist in the air appears on the front page of the Financial Times. The paper says the incident has “transformed the 2024 presidential race” and that Trump is due to be confirmed as the Republican nominee for president on Monday.

The headline in the Telegraph reads: "Trump: God alone saved my life".

The former president credited “God alone” with saving his life, according to the Daily Telegraph. The paper adds that, in public statements after the shooting, Trump “struck a statesmanlike tone”, sending “love” to the victims and calling on Americans to remain “resilient ” in the face of “wickedness”.

The headline in the Mail reads: "Trump: Evil won't win".

And the Daily Mail calls Trump’s survival a “miracle” and says he is now “tipped for a ‘landslide’ election victory” in November.
