A 62-year-old man has been charged with harassment against Education Minister Paul Givan.
It follows a report to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) on 7 February of abusive emails.
The man is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on 14 March.
The charge will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
In a post on social media platform X on Tuesday, Givan said he would not be “deterred from serving the people of Northern Ireland as education minister”.
Branding the alleged harassment as “unacceptable”, he added: “The harassment of public representatives undermines democracy and discourages others from putting themselves forward for public life.”
Givan said the emails he reported to police were “regarding Lisneal College”.
The school has been involved in a row over funding of a new pitch that was given without the school directly applying for the money.
Education Minister Paul Givan took questions earlier this month at the assembly’s education committee during which he defended the allocation of funding.
