Police said two teenage suspects ran off under the bridge at Gilmour Street station

A teenager was slashed on the face during a mass disturbance in Paisley town centre.

Police Scotland were called to Gauze Street, at about 21:30 on Friday, after a fight broke out between two groups of youths, including some armed with knives.

The 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Detectives said the suspect is white, in his late teens and of slim build. He was wearing a blue North Face hooded top with white horizontal stripes, and a black bum bag.

A second 17-year-old boy was punched in the face during the incident but did not require treatment.

Officers said the suspect is white, in his late teens, of slim build, with a tattoo on his left hand.

He was wearing a light grey tracksuit top and dark grey tracksuit bottoms.

Both teenagers ran off under the bridge at Gilmour Street, towards Christie Lane.

Det Con Rhys Wake said some of those involved attempted to cover their tracks later in the night.

He said: “We believe a number of the youths were armed with knives, with obviously one being used and causing injury.

“We also know from our CCTV inquiries that the suspects have changed their clothes and were later seen around midnight in Old Sneddon Street walking towards Moncrieff Street.”

The officer said Gauze Street was usually very busy around that time of night and urged anyone with information to come forward.
