There are delays to rail services serving the capital after a person died after being hit by a train.

British Transport Police were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks at about 08:50 GMT at Stevenage Railway Station in Hertfordshire.

The person’s death is not thought to be suspicious.

Thameslink Railway warned that “major disruptions” between London, Cambridge and Peterborough were expected until “the end of the day”.

All trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised, said a spokesperson.

The operator added that services would not call at Stevenage until about 13:00 GMT.

Meanwhile, a fault with the signalling system at London Blackfriars means that fewer Thameslink services are able to run across the network:

• trains might be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 20 minutes
• reduced service between Bedford and Gatwick Airport/Three Bridges
• trains between East Croydon and East Grinstead suspended
• trains between Luton and Orpington suspended
• trains between Cambridge and Brighton suspended
• trains between Welwyn Garden City and Sevenoaks will operate only between London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks
• trains between Luton and Rainham will operate only between Dartford and Rainham
• trains that usually run between Peterborough and Horsham will call additionally at Salfords and Earlswood, in both directions
• trains that usually run between Cambridge and London King’s Cross will call additionally at Ashwell & Morden station, in both directions
