Jersey swimmer Filip Nowacki won the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke at the World Junior Championships in Romania.

The 17-year-old finished in 59.20 seconds, 0.3 seconds clear of runner-up Shin Ohashi, of Japan.

Nowacki is chasing three medals at the event in Otopeni, and will also compete in the 200m and 50m breaststroke events later this week.

The 200m heats and final take place on Friday, while the 50m heats and semi-finals take place on Saturday, with the final on Sunday.

Nowacki is the holder of the European junior record in the 200m and the British junior record in the 100m breaststroke, which was previously held by multiple Olympic gold medallist Adam Peaty.
