First one-day international, Windhoek

South Africa 348-6 (50 overs): Hermann 150 (126), De Zorzi 72 (84); Trumpelmann 4-68

Nambia 162-8 (31 overs): Kruger 34 (60); Subrayen 4-29

South Africa won by 99 runs (DLS method) and lead the three-match series 1-0

Scorecard

Jordan Hermann struck 150 to equal the record for the highest score in a one-day international debut as South Africa beat Namibia by 99 runs in Windhoek.

The opener’s 126-ball innings saw him draw level with compatriot Matthew Breetzke, who scored 150 from 148 deliveries against New Zealand in February 2025.

Hermann put on a 167-ball second-wicket partnership of 190 with Tony de Zorzi (70), hitting 17 fours and three sixes across his innings.

The 24-year-old reached his first fifty off 61 balls but his next two half-centuries came off 32 deliveries apiece.

Having reached 150 with a single in the covers, he was dismissed from the following delivery, caught at deep-midwicket by Louren Steenkamp off the bowling of seamer Ruben Trumpelmann (4-68) to leave his side on 275-3 in the 42nd over.

South Africa added a further 73 runs to finish on 348-6 having been put into bat but lost Jordan’s older brother Ruben, playing in his second ODI, for eight when he trapped lbw by Trumpelmann.

Nambia’s chase was affected by rain delays and was ultimately reduced to 31 overs, with the hosts falling well short of their target of 262, revised by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

They closed on 162-8, with opener Malan Kruger top-scoring with 34, while South Africa spinner Prenelan Subrayen finished with figures of 4-29.

South Africa’s win, in the first ODI encounter between the neighbouring countries, sees them go 1-0 up in the three-matches series with further fixtures to follow at the same ground on Friday and Sunday (both 08:30 BST).

The visitors have named a rotated squad for the series, with Hermann, who has made six T20 appearances for South Africa, one of three debutants in this match alongside Connor Esterhuizen and Duan Jansen.

The reserve-heavy line-up won four of their five matches in a T20 tri-series against Namibia and Zimbabwe that preceded the ODIs, with Hermann playing every fixture alongside Ruben and top-scoring with 53 in Sunday’s final.

He has not been selected for South Africa’s next assignment, a home series of three ODIs and three Tests against Australia, starting later this month.
