Reigning Commonwealth Games heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson is among 63 athletes named on the England team for next month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

But Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson is not part of the squad for the competition, which takes place from 23 July to 2 August.

The 24-year-old, who pulled out moments before the start of the 400m final at June’s UK Athletics Championships after feeling “a little twinge”, had already indicated that she would focus on the European Championships, which take place in Birmingham from 10-16 August.

Those selected, external join a 20-strong Para-athlete contingent named in April, external for the Games.

Johnson-Thompson, who will be aiming for three in a row after also winning gold at the 2018 Games on the Gold Coast, will be joined in her event by Birmingham 2022 bronze medallist Jade O’Dowda and debutant Ellen Barber.

The 200m World Championship silver medallist Amy Hunt will compete in the 100m alongside Daryll Neita and Imani-Lara Lansiquot.

Neita and Lansiquot will also be hoping to defend England’s 4x100m title from 2022, achieved after Nigeria were retrospectively disqualified for an anti-doping violation.

They will be joined in the relay squad by Dina Asher-Smith, Aleeya Sibbons, and Success Eduan, who will also compete individually in the 200m.

World Championship silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell goes in the 800m while long jumper Jazmin Sawyers has been selected for her fourth Commonwealth Games.

British record holder Zharnel Hughes will look to upgrade his 200m silver from four years ago and will be bidding to make it three golds in a row in the 4x100m relay alongside Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, Jona Efoloko, Elliot Jones and Romell Glave.

Birmingham bronze medallists Ben Pattison (800m) and Scott Lincoln (shot) will be hoping to add to their honours while high jumper Kimani Jack will make his Commonwealth debut having set a world-leading outdoor height of 2.31m this season.
